When “Because God Says So” Is Not Enough: 3 Ways to Submit to God’s Will as Christian Women

Let’s be honest: sometimes, following God’s instructions is challenging. As Christian women, we know that God’s way is the best, but our human nature often leads us down a different path. In fact, we see it repeatedly in the Bible—God gives clear instructions, yet His people still disobey. I have to admit, I fall into this category myself.

When We Struggle to Obey

In 2020, God told me to start this blog. It was clear. But instead of stepping out in faith, I doubted. I thought, “Who will want to read what I write?” So, I ignored the call. It wasn’t just about self-doubt, though. There was also fear—like when I borrowed money with an exorbitant interest rate instead of waiting for God to answer my prayers. It’s not easy to trust when faced with uncertainty, but disobedience to God’s instructions rarely ends well.

Even in Scripture, we find examples of people who believed in God but still struggled to follow His will. Take Jonah, for instance. God told him to go to Nineveh and preach repentance. Instead, Jonah ran in the opposite direction. (Jonah 1:1-3) His disobedience led to a storm, a giant fish, and unnecessary drama.

Similarly, Moses, despite his faith in God, struck the rock in anger instead of speaking to it as God commanded, which cost him the chance to enter the Promised Land. (Numbers 20:7-12) In both cases, they knew God’s will yet chose their own way.

Obeying God’s Will: 3 Steps to Help Us Submit

We’ve all had moments when we’ve tried to take matters into our own hands, but obedience to God is key to living the life He’s promised us. So, how can we align ourselves with His will?

1. Show Yourself Compassion
First, we need to give ourselves grace. None of us are perfect, and God knows that. Just as a loving Father shows mercy, we must also show ourselves mercy when we fall short. “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” (Psalm 103:8). Instead of beating ourselves up for past mistakes, we should learn from them, trusting that God’s mercies are new every morning.

2. Pray for Guidance and Strength
Sometimes, fear or impatience drives us to act outside of God’s timing. That’s why staying in constant communication with Him through prayer is so important. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) When we bring our doubts, fears, and struggles to Him, He provides the clarity and strength we need to keep moving forward.

3. Surround Yourself with Godly Support
We are not meant to walk this journey alone. Surround yourself with women who encourage you in your walk with Christ. Scripture reminds us: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17). Whether it’s through the church, a Bible study group, or Christian friends, having others to walk alongside us can make all the difference when we’re struggling to submit to God’s will.

Obeying God is challenging for every believer, especially when fear and doubt try to steal our faith. But just like Jonah and Moses, we can still experience God’s grace, love, and restoration when we return to Him. His will is always for our good, even when we can’t see the bigger picture.

Please share, comment, and follow the blog if this post resonates with you. I’d love to hear your own stories about struggling with obedience and how you’re learning to trust in God’s plan. Let’s grow in faith together!

Until next time, take care of yourselves and each other.
