Hello friends, and welcome to another blog post from Empowered Faith Media! Today, we’re diving into a big topic: honoring the Sabbath.
I have to be honest—there was a time when the Sabbath was just another day for me. I juggled kids, a job, my husband, school, work, and caring for my parents and stopping to rest felt impossible. Reading my Bible for an entire day? Out of the question—or so I thought.
But God, in His goodness, showed me that Sabbath rest is less about rules and rituals and more about reconnecting with Him. Resting in God isn’t about adding another “to-do” to your list—it’s about releasing your burdens and finding refreshment for your soul.
Today, I want to share three ways you can honor the Sabbath in 2025 and find peace in God without feeling overwhelmed.
1. Redefine Rest with God’s Word
Rest doesn’t mean sitting still all day or stopping every activity. Biblical rest is about pausing to acknowledge God’s provision and faithfulness. In Exodus 20:8, God commands, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” Keeping it holy means setting it apart for Him.
Consider spending part of your Sabbath reflecting on scripture, journaling your prayers, or peacefully walking in God’s creation. Rest is not inactivity; it’s intentionality.
2. Prioritize What Matters Most
The Sabbath is a time to pause and realign your priorities. Jesus reminds us in Mark 2:27, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” It’s not about following rigid rules; it’s about letting the Sabbath serve you as a gift from God.
Take this day to spend quality time with your family, reflect on your blessings, and do things that bring joy to your spirit. Whether it’s a meal together, a group prayer, or simply unplugging from distractions, honor God by cherishing what He’s given you.
3. Give Yourself Permission to Rest
For many of us, rest feels like laziness—but that’s a lie from the enemy. God calls us to rest because He knows we need it. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
On your Sabbath, release the guilt of not getting everything done. Trust that God will give you the strength to handle what comes next. Resting is an act of faith—saying, “God, I trust You with my time and my life.”
Bringing It All Together
Honoring the Sabbath is not about perfection; it’s about connection. By redefining rest, prioritizing what matters most, and permitting yourself to rest, you can find renewal in God and strengthen your faith.
Friend, as you navigate this busy world, remember that the Sabbath is God’s gift to you. It’s an invitation to pause, breathe, and remember His love and faithfulness.
