Hello friend, and welcome to Empowered Faith Media, where we share the perfect love of Christ in an imperfect world.

Life gets loud. When your heart feels spiritually dry or distant, this free Miracles in Everyday Life Guide helps you reconnect with stillness, the joys of life, Scripture, and God’s voice.

When I was eight years old, my dad left our family. Though we reconnected when I had my first son at 24, there was always a canyon between us, a space filled with unspoken hopes and the dream of a father-daughter bond that never came to life. That emptiness followed me for years, shaping how I viewed love, trust, and even how I saw God.

For a long time, I didn’t realize how much my “daddy issues” had impacted my relationship with my Heavenly Father. It wasn’t until I finally whispered, “God, I’m afraid of You leaving me too,” that healing began.

If this story feels familiar, take heart, you’re not alone. Here’s what I’ve learned about trusting God to heal the deep wounds left by an earthly father.

1. Acknowledge the Pain and Bring It to God

Healing starts with honesty. this is not the time to be brave. It’s okay to tell God you’re hurt, angry, or afraid. He already knows, and He’s not intimidated by your feelings.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”  Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

God doesn’t dismiss our pain; He sits with us in it. When we stop pretending we’re “fine” and start praying from a place of truth, His comfort begins to fill the gaps our fathers left behind.

2. Let Scripture Redefine Fatherhood

It may seem incomprehensible, but if your earthly father abandoned, disappointed, or mistreated you, it’s easy to project those wounds onto God. But His character is nothing like the brokenness of man.

“I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”2 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV)

Spend time learning what the Bible says about God’s love. He is consistent, kind, patient, and present. His love doesn’t leave when things get hard; it’s the anchor that holds.

Insight:
Sometimes we don’t need new answers; we need a new lens. Healing begins when you stop comparing your Heavenly Father to your earthly one.

3. Choose Forgiveness, Even When It Feels Impossible

Forgiving your father doesn’t mean the pain didn’t matter. It means you’re choosing freedom over bitterness. I chose to forgive my dad, because i wanted him to have a relationship with my kids, and he had a beautiful time with them, the memories they have of him are incredible.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

When I forgave my dad, not because he earned it, but because God commanded it, I felt chains break off my heart. Forgiveness released me from the past, making space for God’s peace to take root.

4. Build Intimacy with Your Heavenly Father

Healing isn’t just about letting go of the past, it’s about embracing the relationship waiting for you now. Spend quiet time with God. Read His Word, talk to Him, and let Him show you how loved you are.

“Because you are His sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’”Galatians 4:6 (NIV)

When I began to see God not just as “Lord,” but as Abba, a deeply personal Father, everything changed. The fear that He would leave slowly faded into faith that He never would. Our relationship is so much stronger, and far beyond anything I could imagine.

Friend, you may never get the father-daughter story you dreamed of, but through Christ, you can find something better: redemption, peace, and unconditional love that heals what was broken. God is not the reflection of your earthly father; He is the perfection of what a Father should be.
