Hello Friend,

Welcome to Empowered Faith Media, where we share the perfect love of Christ in an imperfect world.  Happy New Year. Today, we’re talking about something personal and I think profoundly important: self-worth.

There have been many times in my life when I have wondered if I am worthy, worthy of human love, and worthy of God’s love. At times, I tried far too hard to earn both of them. If you are feeling that way today, I am praying that this season will reveal just how worthy you already are. Let’s dive in and take a look at the resource list at the end of the post, created to encourage you and support your faith journey.

You Are Not an Accident, You Are a Product of God’s Love

I am a product of love.  I am a product of hope.  I am a product of what is possible when God’s hand is upon a life. The same is true for you.

Scripture reminds us of this truth clearly: “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  Ephesians 2:10

Your worth is not something you have to prove or earn. It was established the moment God created you. You are His workmanship, intentionally designed, deeply loved, and purposefully placed in this world.

When Words and Experiences Shape Our Worth

It can be really easy to feel unworthy. Sometimes that feeling comes from the words spoken over us. I once worked with a mom who would belittle her children, thinking it was funny. But I could see the hurt in their eyes. Words have power, and when spoken carelessly, they can quietly shape how someone sees themselves for years to come.

The Bible speaks to the weight of our words: “The tongue has the power of life and death.”  Proverbs 18:21

If harsh words were spoken over you, by a parent, teacher, partner, or even yourself, know that God’s voice speaks louder and truer than any of them.

When Mistakes Try to Define Us

Sometimes we feel unworthy because of the mistakes we’ve made. And believe me, I have made my fair share. Shame has a way of convincing us that our past disqualifies us from love or purpose. But God never defines us by our worst moments.

Scripture tells us: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Your mistakes are not the end of your story. In Christ, they are part of a redeemed testimony.

When Comparison Steals Our Confidence

Other times, unworthiness creeps in because we think we don’t measure up. Maybe we believe we don’t have enough education, we don’t speak well, or we didn’t go to the “right” schools.

None of that matters to God. God has always used ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”  1 Corinthians 1:27

Your value is not found in your résumé, your background, or your accomplishments. Your worth is rooted in who you belong to.

Rest in the Truth of Your Worth

As we step into this new year, I hope you will carry this truth with you: you are worthy because God says you are. Not because of what you’ve done, and I am sure that you have accomplished some amazing things, but because of who He is.  You are loved fully, known completely, and held securely by a God who does not make mistakes.

That is all I have for you today, my friend. Please don’t forget to download your free gift, “Miracles in Everyday Life: A Faith-Filled Guide to Seeing God at Work.”
