Hello everyone, and welcome to Empowered Faith Media, where we share the perfect love of Christ in an imperfect world.
When I was a Sunday school teacher many years ago, one of the lessons I loved to teach was about prayer. I explained to my little ones that prayer is simply a conversation with God, that we can go to Him with everything on our hearts, knowing that He hears us. We can trust Him with our feelings, our needs, and our fears.
However, over time, through my own walk of faith and in listening to others, I’ve noticed something: often, our prayers become one-sided. We come to the Lord with lists of wants, hurts, and frustrations. When someone upsets us, when we’re afraid, or when we long for something we think we can’t live without, we pour it all out before Him. That’s good, but I wonder: how often do we stop to listen?
Psalm 46:10 reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
What would happen if we not only spoke to God but also gave Him room to speak to us?
The Power of Prayer
Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons we have. It is our lifeline to the Most High God, and it is also His way of connecting with us, His children. Like any loving Father, He longs to hear about your day, your victories, and your sorrows. But like any good Father, He also wants you to listen, because when He speaks, it’s powerful.
I encourage you: the next time you enter your quiet time with the Lord, let it truly be quiet time. Begin with praise, lift your worship, and then sit in silence. In the stillness, you may discover more than you ever imagined.
Three Lessons from the Stillness
Here are three powerful lessons I’ve learned from simply sitting quietly in God’s presence:
1. God Brings Peace to a Restless Heart
When we pause the noise of life and turn our attention to Him, we discover His peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:6-7). Worries that once consumed us begin to fade when His still, small voice whispers truth to our souls.
Reflection Question: What anxieties could you release today by bringing them before God in stillness?
2. God Gives Clarity in Confusion
In seasons of uncertainty, silence before God often brings the clarity we need. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Quiet moments with Him realign our hearts and help us see His direction more clearly.
Reflection Question: Where in your life do you need to stop leaning on your own understanding and listen for God’s guidance?
3. God Renews Our Strength
Isaiah 40:31 promises, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles.” When we sit quietly in His presence, He restores us, body, mind, and spirit, equipping us to step back into life with renewed energy and purpose.
Reflection Question: How might God be inviting you to slow down so He can refresh and renew your strength?
