Listen to When Faith Feels Faint: How to Keep Trusting God in Silent Seasons

My Dear Sisters,

Welcome to Empowered Faith Media, where we share the perfect love of Christ in an imperfect world. I’ve been thinking a lot about you, especially as we step into this holiday season. Everywhere we look, the world paints this time of year as joyful and glittering, filled with laughter, family gatherings, and cozy moments by the tree. But you and I both know that, beneath all the sparkle, this season can also feel heavy. Sometimes it brings disappointment, stress, or the ache of strained relationships. You may find yourself sitting across from someone who has hurt you, trying to smile, trying to stay kind, trying to remember that Christ is with you even when everything feels tense.

In those moments your faith feels thin. Your nerves are stretched, and your prayers feel like they bounce back unheard. If you’ve been feeling that way, please hear me: You’re human. Scripture is filled with people who walked through long, quiet stretches where God felt distant, David cried, “How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1), and even still God called him a man after His own heart.

One thing God keeps reminding me is that He doesn’t ask us to act “okay” when we’re not. He invites us—messy feelings and all, to come to Him. “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Not because you’re strong, but because He loves you.

I’ve also been thinking about how easy it is to assume God is absent when He’s quiet. We often look for Him only in the big, miraculous moments. But remember Elijah, God was not in the wind, or the earthquake, or the fire, but in a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:11–13). Sometimes God’s nearness shows up in the smallest ways: a moment of peace in the middle of chaos, a breath you didn’t realize you needed, or strength that appears right when you feel you have none left. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18), even when the nearness feels subtle.

Lately I’ve been noticing how loud life gets, especially during the holidays. And in those loud seasons, our souls almost forget how to hear God. I’ve been working through a little devotional I created called Miracles in Everyday Life, and honestly, even a few minutes of stillness has felt like stepping into a quiet room with the Father. There’s something healing about sitting in silence, breathing slowly, and letting Scripture wash over you. It’s not about trying harder; it’s about resting in His grace. “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Sometimes that stillness is the very place He speaks the loudest.

And when faith feels faint, it’s okay if you can’t take giant leaps. God often rebuilds us through small, simple acts of trust. Maybe it’s repeating a single verse throughout the day, something like, “The Lord is my strength and my shield” (Psalm 28:7). Maybe it’s choosing kindness toward someone who’s difficult to love. Maybe it’s thanking God for one small blessing. These tiny acts of obedience become anchors, pulling us back to the truth of who God is. Jesus said, “Whoever is faithful with little will be faithful with much” (Luke 16:10). Sometimes those “little” things are the very steps that lead us out of a dry season.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, or unsure where God is in all of this, I want you to know that you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. I made the devotional Miracles in Everyday Life for moments exactly like this. It’s free, and it’s simply meant to help you breathe again, see God in the small things, and reconnect with His voice through Scripture, prayer, and quiet reflection.

Sisters, I’d love to hear from you. What is one small way you’ve sensed God’s presence during a silent season? Even the tiniest moment counts.

Until next time, take gentle care of yourself and each other. And remember, you are loved more deeply than you know.

With Peace and Love,
Renee
